![]() ![]() I wouldn't like to see the alien base like in a regular RTS. Improvements to the combat mechanics, but focusing on turtling which is a major aspect of the game.Utopia has a darker tone with your spies kidnapping alien individuals for interrogation (or worse), and it would be cool if it was optional how far the player wants to push that. Maybe you find out precisely when an attack is coming and from where so you can set up your defences. You could sow seeds of war (forcing a premature attack) or peace. There could be structural sabotage and political influence. You could find out the weakness of their tanks, either abstracted so your troops knows where to hit the tanks for more damage, or which type of weapons work best against them. Perhaps you can steal specific technology or get a general boost. It's fun to find stuff out about the aliens, but for the sake of replay value, I think there has to be tangible bonuses. Alpha Centauri perhaps?Īside from the obvious improvement one could make to the game, such as graphics and GUI/flow. I can't really think of a lot of open ended RTS games. find diplomatic solutions to conflicts, go for scientific progress, experiment with various goverment styles, or my favourite: turtling! Turtling like there's no tomorrow! That could be one way to win the game, a sort of pseudo-pacifistic diplomatic solution. I'd like to be able to play each game differently. I like this focus on base building over troop management. Enemies stream in from the edges of the screen so it's important to place turrets and tanks strategically around your base. The enemy base is off-screen and once your units are been sent there they were out of your control (some kind of algorithm determines damage/victory). It's more focused on the Sim City-like colony management, research, trading, spying and hanging around with the aliens in the command center. Utopia is not as fast paced as the typical modern RTS. Back then, they were kind of still experimenting with the RTS genre, which made the games interesting if nothing else. UTOPIA - The Creation of a Nation Foreword
